Here are five reasons why you should apply today:
1. Gain real-world, in-field experience
The PAT Scholarship is your chance to step out of the classroom and into the wild. Over two intensive weeks of in-field practical training (20 places available), you’ll work hands-on in real protected areas, learning directly from conservation professionals who manage these critical environments every day.
You’ll gain experience with field technologies: setting up and maintaining networks and deploying devices; collecting and managing environmental data; applying digital tools for communications; and troubleshooting real-world technical challenges that require creativity and teamwork. You’ll also learn how these technologies support the daily work of rangers, ecologists and Protected Area managers.
For top-performing participants, there’s even more — a two-month internship (5 places available) hosted at one of our field partners in a Protected Area. This immersive experience lets you live on-site, apply your technical knowledge, and solve conservation challenges alongside leading conservation technicians.
2. Build industry connections
The PAT Scholarship is a gateway to a professional network that can shape your career. You’ll connect with industry experts, mentors and peers who share your passion for conservation technology. These connections can help you find your next opportunity, build a clear career pathway and learn directly from those who’ve advanced from technician to technical manager to conservation technology leader.
3. Stand out to employers
Gain your Entry-Level PAT Certification through our PAT online training course and open the door to a globally recognised Cisco NetAcad Certification. Show employers that your hands-on skills are backed by world-class learning.
4. Fully funded, stress-free experience
Your training, transport, accommodation and sustenance for the entire internship duration are fully covered, so you can focus entirely on learning and growth. There’s no need to worry about hidden costs or logistics; everything is taken care of.
4. Make a difference
With the growing demand for Protected Area Technicians, your work directly supports the protection of our planet’s most vital ecosystems. You’ll help conservation teams stay connected, ensure systems remain secure, and keep critical environmental data flowing — the backbone of modern conservation efforts.
